Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Announcement & Release date, The Beloved Campaign mode is back!

"Prepare to go dark...Deploying on 25th October"

We witnessed Call of duty: Black Ops 4 was slightly off the mark, featuring a time travel-themed zombie mode and Fortnite-style battle royale, but now Call of Duty is making the jump back to reality for its next release. The developers at Infinity Ward officially announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The game is a reboot of the 2007 game and not a remake, but a reimagining, explained by Infinity Ward.

Scheduled for global release on PlayStation® 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 25, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a powerful reimagined experience in an all-new title, completely built from the ground up.

Developed by Infinity Ward, in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare you’ll take on the role of highly-skilled Tier One operator in an incredibly raw and gritty narrative affecting the global balance of power.

Campaign Mode

The new Modern Warfare delivers an emotionally charged and intense campaign that shines a light on the changing nature of modern war. Expect a single-player experience that is edgy, culturally relevant, and thought-provoking.

Players will fight alongside a diverse cast of international special forces and freedom fighters working within the grey area of their rules of engagement, in a number of heart-pounding covert operations set throughout iconic European cities and into the volatile expanses of the Middle East.

Missions include close-quarter, stealth operations and long-range combat that puts tactical decision-making to the ultimate test.

Modern Warfare is not a direct sequel to 2011’s Modern Warfare 3, but instead, a soft reboot that kicks off a new storyline with a few familiar, returning characters. Captain Price is back, for example, but with what appears to be a new voice actor. The campaign will be split into two halves- in one, you’ll be dragged as a Tier 1 operator, a special forces soldier, and in the second part you’ll be playing as a rebel fighter in the Middle East.

In the first, after a terrorist attack at Piccadilly Circus, a group of soldiers tracks down the attackers to a small, cramped townhouse in central London. What followed was a methodical killing of everyone in the building. Well-armed soldiers moved through every room and floor, shooting normal-looking folks in bedrooms and kitchens. At the end of the scene, the soldiers are searching for evidence on an upper floor, and you can hear a baby inside of the house screaming in the background.

The second scenario was a flashback, showing the early life of one of the rebel characters. Set 20 years ago, it takes place in a seemingly small Middle Eastern village in the midst of a military attack, while the character controls a young girl following her older brother in search of safety. You mostly hide, sneaking past soldiers through small hidden spaces, but you can’t help but see and hear the carnage around you. At one point, the siblings work together to kill a determined soldier and it’s an absolutely brutal experience, as they use makeshift weapons, including a screwdriver, to take down their attacker.

Multiplayer Mode

Modern Warfare will, of course, include a multiplayer mode, but Infinity Ward hasn't yet revealed much more detail on that portion of the game. It did say, however, that your progression in the campaign will carry over to multiplayer, meaning you'll always be working towards unlocking new killstreaks, perks, and weapons. And as noted above, the game will feature cross-play across all platforms. Additionally, there won't be any standard season pass that locks off new, post-launch multiplayer maps, confirmed by Activision.
